Hamilton Leads The Way – Sochi FP2

Lewis Hamilton ended Friday as fastest man in Sochi after topping the second daily practice session, ahead of McLaren driver Kevin Magnussen and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso.

Nico Rosberg was 4th after making a mistake on his second flying lap that left him 0.9 down on his team-mate and rival. Valtteri Bottas was 5th, with Jenson Button and Felipe Massa following behind. Button missed out with team-mate Magnussen looking more comfortable on the soft tyres in use for the first time this weekend.

The only incident of note during the session was that concerning Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian ground to a halt with just a handful of minutes left on the clock when the well-used Renault power unit in his Red Bull let go. This caused a red flag to be thrown but as is customary in practice sessions, the clock continued to count down. The green was shown with just three minutes to go, allowing a last ditch attempt at laptime improvement for the drivers on soft tyres and a very crowded circuit.
