Jules Bianchi, subbing for the injured Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari, was fastest man on the second and final day of Silverstone’s in-season test following the British Grand Prix.
Bianchi drove for Marussia yesterday, but stepped into Raikkonen’s shoes by virtue of his role in the Ferrari young driver development program. Daniil Kvyat was next in line, some 0.3 behind Bianchi with Kevin Magnussen in 3rd for McLaren. Sunday’s race winner Lewis Hamilton was 5th after a solid day’s work for Mercedes.
Elsewhere, Lotus and Charles Pic trialled the proposed 18-inch wheel rims provided by Pirelli, causing consternation among fans. The appearance of the car ‘is like a chariot’ claimed one fan on an online forum, with others saying the fragile Italian rubber would never last long enough on such a narrow tyre.
The Silverstone test is the last of the scheduled in-season tests for 2014.
