Practice Washout Sees Vettel Fastest – Silverstone FP3

Persistent rain blighted third free practice for Sunday’s British Grand Prix and ended with Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo locking out the top two positions for Red Bull, though the session remains unrepresentative given the differing approaches to the challenge by various teams and drivers.

Lotus were 3rd and 4th courtesy of Pastor Maldonado and Romain Grosjean, with Adrian Sutil and Daniil Kvyat finishing ahead of the McLaren duo of Kevin Magnussen and Jenson Button.

Mercedes pairing Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton both filed to set laptimes despite getting in some limited running, though Hamilton struggled with the wet track and slid wide at Stowe before abandoning his run. Similarly, there were heart-stopping moments for Nico Hulkenberg and Romain Grosjean, while Marussia’s Jules Bianchi hit the barriers at Stowe when he carried too much speed into the sodden corner.

Qualifying is at 13:00 GMT.
