MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi has signed a new deal with his team Yamaha, extending his contract to the end of the 2016 season.
The nine-time Italian World Champion was elated with the decision, as were his team:
‘Since his return to Yamaha in 2013 it’s been a very positive experience for everybody involved.’ said Lyn Jarvis.
‘After two difficult years ‘away from home’ Valentino returned last year, not only to us but also to his beloved YZR‐M1. Fans of racing across the world were happy to see him rediscover his competitive performance and witness him take pleasure in riding and having fun again on two wheels.’
Rossi currently shares 2nd place in the 2014 title chase with Honda’s Dani Pedrosa, albeit 72 points down on runaway leader Marc Marquez. Rossi has thrived this season, while team-mate and rival Jorge Lorenzo has struggled to score podiums and consistent points finishes.
