Caterham Sale Completed By Fernandes

AirAsia owner and QPR majority shareholder completed the sale of his Caterham Formula One team to a Swiss and Middle Eastern joint consortium advised by ex-HRT boss Dr Colin Kolles, while trackside operations are to be handled by ex-Midland F1 and Minardi driver Christian Albers.

Although the team will continue to participate, the move brings to an end Fernandes’ involvement with the sport which began in 2010 when he brought the team – then known as Lotus – to the grid as part of a move introduced in 2009 to allow three new teams to join the grid the following season.

In Monaco last month, Marussia secured their first ever F1 points after Jules Bianchi finished 8th, while Caterham have struggled and fallen further behind their Anglo-Russian rivals in the battle for back of the grid honours.

Fernandes retains his interests in the road car division of Caterham.
