Seven time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher is ‘no longer in a coma’ according to a statement issued this morning by his manager Sabine Kehm.
Schumacher is understood to have been transferred to the Lausanne University Hospital closer to his home in Switzerland after being cared for in the Grenoble Hospital following the skiing accident that left him unconscious on 29th December last year.
“Michael has left the CHU Grenoble to continue his long phase of rehabilitation. He is not in a coma anymore. For the future we ask for understanding that his further rehabilitation will take place away from the public eye.”
The continued lack of updates from the Grenoble hospital had led many observers to fear the worst, but the encouraging news instead lends further hope to the wish that Schumacher will make a recovery and return to as normal a life as possible following the head injuries he sustained in the fall.
