Marc Marquez has dominated the 2014 MotoGP championship over the first four races, and that showed no sign of abating in qualifying for the French Grand Prix at Le Mans as he massacred his rivals and left them standing, setting the fastest lap time by almost 0.7 seconds.
The expected challenge to the reigning Champion from Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa and Yamaha man Jorge Lorenzo failed to materialise, with Pedrosa in particular suffering a horrendous Q2 that sees him start 9th on the grid. Lorenzo was 6th, behind veteran team-mate Valentino Rossi; in front of them the front row was filled out by the mightily impressive Pol Espargaro for Yamaha Tech 3 and Andrea Dovizioso for Ducati.
Stefan Bradl starts 4th, while behind the Yamaha factory duo the order reads Bautista, Aleix Espargaro, Pedrosa, Bradley Smith, Andrea Iannone – who had a lap that put him 2nd disallowed for exceeding track limits – and Cal Crutchlow, who had limped through from Q1 as one of the fastest two riders behind Aleix Espargaro.
Hector Barbera was the only rider to crash during the session, going down in Q1 without injury.
