Jorge Lorenzo beat Marc Marquez to the fastest time in FP3 for this weekend’s MotoGP race at Le Mans in France, meaning the double World Champion holds a narrow advantage as the top ten rider progress to the pole position shootout.
Pol Espargaro was a superb 3rd for Yamaha Tech 3, ahead of Alvaro Bautista and Valentino Rossi. Bradley Smith was 8th behind Stefan Bradl and Dani Pedrosa, with Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone rounding out the top ten. Cal Crutchlow was unable to advance automatically after issues with his Ducati’s braking system surfaced again as they did in Jerez, but he has a chance to take part in the pol shootout if he can finish 1st or 2nd in Q1 this afternoon.
The session was thankfully devoid of incidents, unusual for what is a challenging circuit with plenty of fallers in recent years.
