Ricciardo heads wet session – China FP3

china f1 gp times

Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo set fastest time in the wet final free practice session ahead of Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix, with several key competitors electing not to run in order to save tyres for what will more than likely be a wet qualifying later today.

Felipe Massa was 2nd fastest for Williams, a tenth ahead of Lotus man Romain Grosjean; the Frenchman and team-mate Pastor Maldonado looked more comfortable in the wet than with the troublesome E22 in the dry despite a technical issue that halted the Venezuelan on track halfway through the session when he was attempting a qualifying simulation run.

Nico Hulkenberg was 4th for Force India, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in 5th.

Both Mercedes drivers failed to set a time, with Fernando Alonso also choosing to conserve tyres and stay in the garage.

While the session was uneventful, it proved useful for some of the younger drivers to practice skills they will need later in qualifying, which begins at 07:00GMT.
