Mercedes consolidate advantage – Bahrain FP3

Unsurprisingly Mercedes decimated the field again ahead of qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg setting the pace with another relentless 1-2.

During the hour long session the pair proved around a second a lap faster in both qualifying and race trim, and it was only a stellar effort by Force India’s Sergio Perez that got the Mexican within 0.6 seconds on his soft tyre run. Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa proved competitive on the soft tyre for Williams in 4th and 5th, while previous Bahrain winners Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso were 6th and 7th for McLaren and Ferrari respectively. Nico Hulkenberg, Daniil Kvyat and Kimi Raikkonen rounded out the top ten.

World Champion Sebastian Vettel never made it to the qualifying simulation segment of practice, spinning into the gravel at the exit of turn two when he ran wide on the outside kerb and his RB10 – nicknamed Suzy – broke away under traction from the troublesome Renault V6 Turbo.

Other than his incident, the session proved uneventful.

Qualifying is at 17:00GMT
