Kobayashi cleared of blame for Massa shunt

Caterham’s F1 returnee Kamui Kobayashi has been cleared of blame for the first corner smash that saw him and Williams driver Felipe Massa eliminated from the Australian Grand Prix.

Initially it looked as though the Japanese had misjudged his braking after starting an excellent 14th, but it was later discovered a fault in the car’s braking system – dubbed ‘fly-by-wire’ by some as it uses technology similar to that found on civilian airliners – was at fault, causing Kobayashi to lose braking power before his wheels suddenly locked and sent him into the back of the hapless Massa.

The Brazilian had initially demanded action against Kobayashi and the incident was investigated by the stewards, with Kobayashi apologising. It seems however after all that the mistake was not his.
