Yamaha and Honda ended the second Sepang MotoGP test today with Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa both edging below the two-minute mark with a 1:59:999. The test concluded on a more positive note for Yamaha after a dispiriting start to the week.
On Thursday Honda continued where they left off on Wednesday with Dani Pedrosa taking over from Alvaro Bautista at the head of the timesheets. The absence of Marc Marquez with a broken leg seemed to have little effect on the Japanese manufacturer’s plans to consolidate their strong showing at the first test by exacting a measure of dominance second time around.
Meanwhile there were struggles for rivals Yamaha, as Jorge Lorenzo voiced his dislike for the current breed of tyres and trailed pacesetter Pedrosa by over a second on day two. There was another starring performance from Aleix Espargaro onboard the NGM Mobile Forward bike, registering 2nd fastest time in the first two days, while Ducati found some crumb of comfort in the 3rd place of Dovizioso on the final afternoon of testing.
