Toro Rosso unveil STR9

Toro Rosso took the wraps off their 2014 car, the STR9, in the Jerez pitlane this afternoon on the eve of F1 testing beginning at the Spanish circuit tomorrow.

The new car, to be driven by 2012/2013 veteran Jean Eric Vergne and newcomer Daniil Kvyat, retains the prominent backing of the Spanish CEPSA Group, who featured so highly on last year’s car. It is also the first Toro Rosso to run with a Renault powerplant as opposed to the Ferrari unit favoured by the team since 2007, in allegiance with sister and parent team Red Bull who have used the French company’s products to achieve four back-to-back Constructor’s Championship triumphs.

The STR9 features a striking version of the 2014 rule change that has forced designers into producing cars with extremely low and portruding noses, sporting a proboscis-like ‘anteater’ nose that the team have attempted to disguise with clever paint application – to no avail as the STR9 seems to embody everything F1 fans feared about the new regulations.
