Following Pastor Maldonado’s recent confirmation as part of the Lotus line-up for the 2014 Formula One season, Germany’s Nico Hulkenberg has confirmed widespread media speculation and announced he will rejoin former employer Force India for next year.
Hulkenberg, who raced for Sauber in 2013, was Force India test and reserve driver in 2011 before moving up to a full-time seat with the squad alongside Paul Di Resta in 2012. He came close to winning last year’s Brazilian Grand Prix in treacherous conditions before colliding with McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton.
His signing means it is unlikely Scot Di Resta will be driving for Force India in 2014, with McLaren refugee Sergio Perez expected to join Hulkenberg. It is understood the 26 year-old German has signed a two-year deal.
