Maldonado confirms Lotus move

In an announcement widely anticipated for some time, Lotus broke the news on Friday that Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado will be partnering Romain Grosjean at the team in 2014.

Maldonado, who won the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix for Williams, fell out with management at the Grove-based squad and has taken his multi-million dollar sponsorship deal with him to secure the future of the Lotus team.

German Nico Hulkenberg is understood to have been Lotus’s preferred choice, but a lack of sponsorship support would have further weakened the team’s already perilous financial situation; In Abu Dhabi Kimi Raikkonen claimed Lotus had not paid him a single euro all season.
