Alonso leads the way in America – Austin FP1

Fernando Alonso ended an eventful morning at the US Grand Prix weekend by setting fastest time in FP1 ahead of McLaren’s Jenson Button.

The session was postponed by forty minutes thanks to a thick blanket of Texan fog coating the circuit, and running only lasted a mere ten minutes before the red flags were out once again.

This time the absence of the medical helicopter was the issue, after the one and only aircraft stationed at the Circuit of the Americas suffered a technical problem. When the track was opened once more, there were just thirty-two minutes left to fulfil FP1 schedules.

Red Bull and Mercedes appeared to choose long-fuel runs to fill their time, whilst Ferrari and others elected for evaluation runs on lighter fuel with the medium compound tyres.
