Magnussen poised to oust Perez

21 year-old Danish star Kevin Magnussen, son of former F1 driver Jan, is poised to replace Mexico’s Sergio Perez at McLaren for 2014.

The rumours have been fuelled by months of speculation over Perez’s future as he has failed to meet expectations and performance targets in what has been McLaren’s worst season since 1980.

Team-mate Jenson Button has scored almost double the points total of the former Sauber driver.

Martin Whitmarsh, McLaren Team Principal, has yet to confirm the change officially but an announcement is expected sometime before this weekend’s United States Grand Prix. Should they be correct, Perez is to be left high and dry without an F1 drive next season.

Magnussen is the reigning Formula 3.5 Champion and a leading light of McLaren’s Young Driver development programme.
