Button commits to McLaren as Raikkonen seeks payment

Jenson Button has claimed his contract with McLaren is as good as ‘done’, and that he ‘will be at McLaren next year’.

The announcement ends several weeks of speculation over whether the Briton would remain at the Woking-based squad in 2014. However, the details released so far have not shed any light on the length of Button’s contract.

Meanwhile, Kimi Raikkonen has claimed he is leaving Lotus because he ‘hasn’t been paid’ the salary he agreed with the team for the 2013 season. The Finn blamed Lotus management for failing to keep hold of his services for 2014 after he signed a deal with Ferrari last week to join Fernando Alonso at the Italian squad that he won the world title for in 2007.

Sergio Perez has also sparked rumours a deal is at hand that will see the Mexican remain at McLaren in 2014.

More to follow.
