Briton James Calado, GP2 race-winner, has been signed for Force India as a test and reserve driver following July’s Young Driver Test at Silverstone in which he impressed team bosses with his performance.
The 24 year-old Englishman joins the Silverstone-based team in a similar capacity to Paul Di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg before him, with both men going on to full-time drives with the Indian-flagged squad. Marussia’s star rookie Jules Bianchi also filled the role but missed out on a race seat at the start of the 2013 season in favour of the returning Adrian Sutil.
“This is a great opportunity for him to gain valuable experience of driving during F1 race events.” said team owner Vijay Mallya.
Calado is expected to take part in FP1 at this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix in his first official action as a Force India team member.
